Summary
Summary: As we know, in Jonas society, there is no color, feelings, or choices. It is an unfair community. They also have the same birthday as everybody else from the same year. These birthdays mean something for each year. Specifically, at age twelve, the kids get assigned their future job. The main character, Jonas, gets the job as The Receiver of Memory. There is only one of them in the community. The job is to keep and store the memories of the community that the community dos not know of. This is why Jonas community has no feelings or choices. Knowing this, Jonas knows that his life is about to change as he goes into training.
After the ceremony of twelve, Jonas goes home and looks at his instructions of being The Receiver or Memory. Everyone else has a bunch of pages to read, but Jonas only has one page with only rules on it. One of them is that he is not aloud to show or tell anybody about his training. Jonas thinks it is not cool because all of his friends gets to talk about their jobs, but Jonas has the best job in the community, but he can't share about it. He starts to think if it would get him into danger. Also, there was another rule that you may lie.

He there sees an old man who then trains him along his journey. He is known as the giver. The giver reminds Jonas that he is not aloud to tell anyone about his training or future job.
